Clearly there’s a lot riding on the first many weeks of welcoming a new employee! 

Our internal HR team has put a lot of thought into making sure Boly:Welch team members are onboarded successfully so they feel connected and capable hitting the ground running. Below is a sample onboarding schedule we might use for a new recruiter, and here’s an onboarding checklist you can use at your own workplace!  

Sample Onboarding Schedule for a New Recruiter

WEEK 1 (starts on tuesday)

Day 1  
9:00 – 9:30 AM: Agenda review; expectation setting; building tour; tech check-in  
9:30 – 10:00 AM: Sit in on virtual client meeting with team lead  
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Welcome and company history  
12:00 – 1:00 PM: Lunch on us (with team)  
1:00 – 2:00 PM: Paperwork party with HR 
2:00 – 4:00 PM: Shadow team

Day 2 
9:00 – 10:30 AM: Team communication processes; goals for the year; current state of orders 
10:30 – 11:45 AM: Business strategy with Director of Client Relations  
11:45 AM – 1:00 PM: Legacy lunch with CEO 
1:00 – 4:00 PM: Shadow team 

Day 3
9:00 – 10:00 AM: Buddy coffee 
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Review CRM with Operations Manager 
12:00 – 1:00 PM: Lunch  
1:00 – 3:30 PM: Review CRM with Operations Manager (cont.)  
3:30 – 4:30 PM: Happy Hour with the whole office 

Day 4
9:00 – 10:30 AM: Review handbook and complete paperwork with HR  
10:30 – 12:00 PM: Culture dynamics, values, org chart deep-dive with HR 
12:00 – 1:00 PM: Lunch 
1:00 – 2:30 PM: Benefits and perks review with HR 
2:30 – 3:30 PM: Recruiting compensation review with HR 
3:30 – 4:00 PM: Shared drive tour and how-to 

WEEK 2

Day 5
9:00 – 9:30 AM: Check-in with Director of Operations 
9:30 – 10:30 AM: Desk management, organization, and workflow with Operations Manager 
10:30 – 11:00 AM: All-staff check-in  
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Internal training video  
12:00 – 1:00 PM: Lunch 
1:00 – 1:10 PM: Scheduling how-to 
1:10 – 2:30 PM: Shadow team  
2:30 – 3:30 PM: Accounting department meet and greet  
3:30 – 4:00 PM: Reference checking how-to with Senior Recruiter 

Day 6
9:00 – 11:00 AM: Shadow team and watch internal training videos on taking a job order 
11:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Sourcing and recruiting with HR Manager  
12:30 – 1:30 PM: Lunch 
1:30 – 2:30 PM: Marketing team meet and greet  
2:30 – 3:30 PM: Networking 101: memberships; building relationships; keeping in touch 
3:30 – 4:10 PM: Internal training video on client relationships

Day 7
9:30 – 10:30 AM: Lifecycle of a job order with Operations Manager 
10:30 – 11:30 AM: Enhancing the candidate experience with Career Advisor  
11:30 – 11:50 AM: Adobe, Outlook, and internal computing processes shortcuts 
12:00 – 1:00 PM: B:W 101 Workshop on Zoom 
1:00 – 1:30 PM: Lunch 
1:30 – 2:30 PM: Employment law and recruiting with HR Manager 
2:30 – 3:00 PM: Internal scheduling processes  
3:00 – 4:00 PM: Internal training videos

Day 8
9:00 – 10:00 AM: Buddy coffee 
10:00 – 11:00 AM: Marketing team review of selling tools and brand 
11:00 AM – 2:30 PM: Business development with team 
2:30 – 3:30 PM: Intro to internal accounting system 
3:30 – 4:00 PM: Set up email signatures and LinkedIn branding 

Day 9
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Desk management with team lead 
12:00 – 1:00 PM: Lunch 
1:00 PM – End of Day: Shadow team, catch up on email

WEEK 3

  • Monthly staff meeting 
  • Learn how to take a job order with team lead 
  • Shadow recruiters during candidate and client calls 
  • Twice daily 20-minute check-ins with team  

WEEK 4

  • Sit in on interviews with team lead  
  • Shadow recruiters  
  • Twice daily 20-minute check-ins with team

WEEK 5

  • Practice taking lead on interviews, with team lead observing  
  • Research and source for open job orders
