About the position

Dougy Center is actively seeking a dynamic and experienced leader who can effectively scale the organization while fostering a mission-driven culture within a diverse team. The ideal Chief Operations Officer will possess the strategic acumen to translate the organization’s vision into measurable and effective outcomes. Working with the Executive Director, the COO will demonstrate the ability to efficiently operationalize processes and lead sustainable organizational change at scale in a fast paced and ever-changing environment.

It is crucial for the COO to be skilled in empowering and leveraging the talents of team members, recognizing the unique strengths they bring to the mission, while continuing to create and foster an inclusive and equitable organization. While implementing efficient systems to enhance productivity is important, maintaining what makes Dougy Center unique is equally vital. The successful candidate will demonstrate both the ability to optimize operational processes and an understanding of the importance of balancing an innovative spirit with upholding the mission that drives Dougy Center forward.

The COO will provide the internal structure and leadership that allows the CEO/ED to maintain Dougy Center’s external face; emphasis will be on refining priorities, ensuring viable planning, and aligning the organizational resources to meet agreed upon goals.

Essential Responsibilities

OPERATIONAL STRATEGY AND PLANNING:

  • Develop and implement operational strategies to support the Dougy Center’s mission and goals
  • Report to Executive Director, identifying organizational needs and acting with autonomy to move things forward
  • Collaborate with executive team and key stakeholders to carry out operational plans that align with organization’s strategic objectives
  • Prioritize workflow and support team managers while identifying opportunities for process improvement, cost efficiencies, and best practices to make Dougy Center the best workplace it can be
  • Oversee direct reports, including Operations Manager; Finance Manager; and/or other related internal teams
  • Oversee Large Building/Organizational Growth Project; Human Resources; Internal Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access & Belonging efforts; Information Technology; and Facilities
  • Create and implement a long-term staffing structure to align with organizational sustainability, in concert with Executive Director

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:

  • Develop and manage the organization’s annual budget and trend analysis in partnership with the finance team, ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance in accordance with nonprofit standards
  • Support multi-year planning, ensuring long-term financial stewardship
  • Optimize financial reporting for grant management, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and staff
  • Monitor financial performance and forecasting, and develop strategies to optimize resource allocation

HUMAN RESOURCES AND TEAM MANAGEMENT:

  • Foster and champion a culture that centers transparency, collaboration, compassion, and accountability
  • Model and instill a service mindset that inspires a professional staff
  • Lead and mentor a small team, fostering a positive, equitable, and inclusive work environment
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of staff members
  • Oversee performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to promote growth and productivity
  • Enhance development of individuals through empowering, advocating, and differentiated support
  • Work with external vendors for fractional or outsourced talent needs, upholding accountability for external agreements

COMPLIANCE, RISK, AND FACILITIES MANAGEMENT:

  • Ensure compliance with set standards and coordinated services to meet demands of all parties involved
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential operational risks
  • Keep up with industry trends, best practices, and emerging issues relevant to the organization’s operations
  • Oversee facilities management of multiple locations as Dougy Center continues to experience rapid growth
  • Provide project management, guidance, and oversight on facilities planning

QualificationS

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in nonprofit operational management
  • Strong leadership skills, with ability to inspire and motivate teams
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities
  • Ability to work with autonomy, be an active listener and thought partner, and provide appropriate feedback and support
  • Ability to work collaboratively, in a small team environment
  • Nonprofit budgeting and forecasting experience, with accounting principles
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for Dougy Center’s mission and commitment to making a positive impact
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field a plus

SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS

  • $100k-$120k commensurate with experience
