What Matters Most:

  • 10+ years of results-driven strategic fundraising and communications experience, comprehensive staff management, and proven collaborative end-to-end thinking
  • Minimum of 5 years experience aligning marketing and development teams to execute comprehensive development programs, working in conjunction with community relations and communications/marketing campaigns
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising with high-capacity individuals and demonstrated success closing major and legacy gifts; experience with major capital campaigns a plus
  • Knowledge of fundraising concepts and metrics, including development planning, annual giving, and major gift cultivation and solicitation
  • Demonstrated competence in brand development and effective execution of marketing campaigns, including digital media, communications planning, social media, and PR
  • Ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate, and advance strategic development plans
  • Innovative, upbeat, coaching approach to leadership, with passion for supporting the success of others


Your New Role:
Boly:Welch Executive Search is honored to partner with the Oregon Humane Society to identify its next Chief Advancement Officer (CAO). This is a truly feel-good role, with a freshly devised development and marketing strategy ready to implement. Working closely with and reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CAO will play a crucial role in creating synergy within a sizeable, tenured advancement department, enhancing brand visibility and driving donor strategies to achieve revenue targets and further the mission.

We’re searching for a strategic partner and executive leader capable of mobilizing a cohesive team of seasoned development and marketing professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and achievement with clearly defined KPIs.

As the CAO, you’ll bring extensive expertise in building strategic alignment, working cross-functionally with a top line leadership team deeply dedicated to a great mission and cause. With your firsthand knowledge of marketing initiatives and fundraising at all levels, you’ll apply your expertise to establish, activate, and execute a comprehensive development program that prioritizes the donor journey. Taking an entrepreneurial and digital fundraising approach, you’ll leverage the profile and exceptional brand recognition of the organization to secure funding sources from diverse revenue streams, including existing and new donors.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Collaborate as a member of a dedicated Executive Team to provide a united, visible, and strong leadership presence across the organization
  • Coach and further develop a highly cohesive, integrated, and results-oriented Advancement Team, operating under a unified vision to meet programmatic and philanthropic needs
  • Evaluate donor experience, and design, implement, and continually improve an advancement model based on researched best practices and current data; lead team to success in taking its innovations to market with a timely and scalable approach
  • Lead strategic priorities for planned giving, major gifts, fundraising events, grants, capital campaigns, and marketing initiatives that support overall revenue goals
  • Guide relationship-based development practices, creating an exceptional donor experience that attracts and sustains both financial and non-financial resources; Own responsibility for portfolio of major donors
  • Ensure prospective donors align with set strategy; build a well-balanced donor portfolio and roadmap that drives giving and donation growth
  • Establish strategy for messaging and communication efforts that reflects brand strategy and positioning across all channels (web, social media, collateral, campaigns) and empowers improved results with donors, partners, and communities
  • Drive new growth opportunities; identify, prioritize, develop, and launch new products, services, and business models that elevate the donor experience
